Trauma affects people of all ages, genders, socio-economic classes. It is seen in people with reactive attachment disorder, abuse, and others. There are many sorts of treatment, including EMDR, talk therapy, art therapy, individual and group therapy. It touches the soul of the person and can affect one’s sense of self and confidence, The first step of treating trauma is for the person to admit needing help and putting forth the effort required to claim one’s core self back.
Trauma changes the brain and how it functions. EMDR is one of the most successful treatments to “re-wiring” the brain to move beyond the trauma and its effects. A notable book explaining how trauma effects a person is “The Body Keeps the Score” by Bessell Van der Kolk. Clients often say that this book seems to be written about them and gives a base to beginning treatment.
